"Meten is weten" wordt weleens gezegd, maar je weet pas wat je meet, als je de meetresultaten analyseert. Dat kan bijvoorbeeld door de resultaten te vergelijken met eerdere metingen, met metingen die elders gedaan worden en met andere metingen.

Eerdere metingen

Door te kijken naar het verloop van meetresultaten krijgen we inzicht in trends. Ook krijgen we inzicht in de gevolgen voor de luchtkwaliteit door veranderende lokale omstandigheden en het effect van politieke maatregelen ten behoeve van de luchtkwaliteit.

Als we onze meetresultaten vergelijken met de luchtkwaliteit in onze directe omgeving of ten opzichte van de gemiddelde luchtkwaliteit in Nederland, dan krijgen we inzicht in de relatieve kwaliteit. Hierdoor kan een waargenomen absolute trend relatief gezien toch anders gewaardeerd moeten worden.

Andere metingen

Om inzicht te krijgen in zowel de oorzaak als de gevolgen van luchtvervuiling door fijnstof vergelijken we onze meetresultaten met andere beschikbare gegevens, zoals weersomstandigheden, verkeersintensiteit en gezondsheidsklachten.

Dagcycli (experimenteel)

Om zicht te krijgen op een eventueel patroon dat zich dagelijks herhaalt visualiseren we diverse grootheden (waaronder natuurlijk ook de hoeveelheid fijnstof) in een 2-dimensionale matrix. De matrix toont verticaal een doorlopende periode van dagen en horizontaal de uren per dag. De resultaten per uur worden vertaald naar een kleur omdat dit makkelijker 'leest' dan een groot overzicht met cijfers.

Fijnstof

Een gele kleur betekent dat er geen meetresultaten beschikbaar zijn.
